Plan is to introduce theories of the atom, and some of the experiments that led scientists to move from one theory to the next. Also introduce subatomic particles, isotopes, etc.

  • Please arrive on time!

Thursday, 5/29/2008

Plan is to finish the PPT from yesterday, talking about the quantum theory of the atom and how electrons are arranged (beyond simple shells to more complex "orbitals"), then take a quick tour of the periodic table and get into chemical compounds and their names. Focus for today is on names of binary compounds, both covalent and ionic.

Monday, 6/2/2008

Plan is to continue with chemical names, including compounds with polyatomic ions, and to introduce types and balancing of chemical equations.

Tuesday, 6/3/2008

Plan is to continue discussion of chemical equations. Also will do a brief review for tomorrow's exam.

Wednesday, 6/4/2008

Plan is to cover the remainder of Chapter 10, go over the homework due today, then give the exam in the last hour of the period.

  • Answers for Homework due 6/4/2008 (Ch 10).
  • PowerPoint on Chemical Calculations - PDF Handout / PPT Slides
  • In-Class Activity/Homework on Chemical Calculations - Blank / Answers
  • Exam 3 covers Chapter 10 through page 285 (i.e., Types of Reactions, Balancing Chemical Equations, and Predicting Products for Ion Exchange and Hydrocarbon Combustion Reactions)
    - Version A: Blank / Answers
    - Version B: Blank / Answers

Thursday, 6/5/2008

Plan is to cover Chapter 11, which is all about solutions, acids/bases, electrolytes, etc.

Monday, 6/9/2008

Plan is to cover Chapter 12 through hydrocarbons and other organic compounds.

Tuesday, 6/10/2008

Plan is to cover the remainder of Chapter 12, including biochemistry and whatever we didn't finish on Monday, then cover a few things from Chapter 13, Nuclear Chemistry.

Wednesday, 6/11/2008

Plan is to do a quick review, as needed, then give Exam 4. Exam 4 will last for 60-70 minutes.

Lab period will feature review sessions for both physics and chemistry.

Thursday, 6/12/2008 Final exam.
