Chemistry 100L - Laboratory Grades (Syllabus, page 3)
Grades for CHEM 100L are earned according to the following scale of total points (not %). The number of total available points will be 1000 points or greater.

Lowest lab report and lab quiz scores will be dropped. Two of the lab quizzes are extra credit opportunities.
Originality. All work must be original and your own. Penalties, such as automatic grades of zero or immediate course failure, will result from cheating, copying, plagiarism, or deceit of any kind. Cheating on a pre-lab quiz includes use of pre-written hints or notes, looking at another student's paper, allowing (or not preventing) another student to copy your answers, or use of a programmable calculator. Cheating on a lab report includes copying any data, calculations, or answers from another student's work. While your group is working on a lab experiment, please do not delegate one person to do all the writing, then copy it at the end of lab. Each person in the group should be writing their observations and data as the experiment is occurring. You may split up the specific laboratory tasks and manipulations, but each person must make his/her own observations of the experiment and be able to answer questions about any part of the procedure. Please do your best to stay involved and contribute to each experiment individually. For each experiment; you must write your own lab report in your own words. (SDCCD Policy 3100.3)
If you look at someone else's paper during a pre-lab quiz, you and the person from whom you copied will both earn a zero on the assignment and/or be dropped from the class with a failing grade without notice or exception. Miramar College may also wish to pursue academic sanctions, expulsion, and/or legal proceedings. Please be fair.
Lab Reports. Your lab manual includes pages that will become your report. Please fill them out during the lab period as you are doing your experiment. Reports are due at the end of the period during which you perform each lab.
Make-Up Work. Pre-lab quizzes. Make-ups are not available, whether or not your absence is excused. So if you miss a quiz, you get a zero. Fortunately, you may drop your lowest pre-lab quiz. Lab reports: Make-up lab times are generally not available. Contact me as soon as possible if missing an experiment will be inevitable. Lab reports are due before you leave on the day that you perform the experiment. Late reports will be accepted at any time, with a grade reduction of 20% for each day late.
